Last week, we had an amazing time hosting a Minecraft Education training session with teachers across Miami-Dade Public Schools in preparation for the Minecraft South Florida Showdown! This session aimed to prepare our teachers with the necessary training, guides and resources to guide their students through this immersive learning experience as they prepare to compete against students in Broward and Palm Beach.
First Annual Tri-County Minecraft Education South Florida Showdown is multi-round competition provides students in grades 3-12 from all District public schools with an opportunity to compete against teams in Miami-Dade, Palm Beach, and Broward, for the title of best builders in South Florida.
During the training session, teachers got hands-on experience with the Minecraft Education platform, from basic world-building to advanced coding and collaborative gameplay. This helped build confidence in integrating the platform into their classrooms, empowering them to encourage creativity, problem-solving, and teamwork among their students.
One of the most exciting parts of the South Florida Showdown is its emphasis on tying engaging gameplay to real-world educational outcomes. Teachers explored lesson plans that align with learning objectives in STEM, history, language arts, and more, all within Minecraft’s open-world environment. The session highlighted that learning can be impactful and fun, creating a positive experience for both educators and students.
As the countdown to the Showdown continues, teachers are now equipped with insights on the event structure, scoring, and expectations for student participation and teamwork. They also previewed the types of challenges students will face, helping them understand how to foster collaboration and creative problem-solving in their classrooms.
This training marked a significant step toward creating an inspiring and educational experience for everyone involved, and we can’t wait to see MDCPS students and their teachers rise to the challenge at the South Florida Showdown!
