This January marked a significant milestone in our journey to empower educators and inspire students in robotics and programming. We were thrilled to host the Riders Professional Learning Sessions, where 20 dedicated teachers from 14 different schools across Miami-Dade County came together with one common goal: to prepare their students for the Riders Robotics League Competitions.
The Professional Learning sessions were meticulously designed to be both immersive and comprehensive. We wanted to ensure that every educator left feeling not just confident and knowledgeable but also reassured about the quality of education they can provide. The training delved deep into the course material, covering everything from foundational robotics concepts to advanced strategies. Teachers engaged in hands-on activities that mirrored their students’ challenges, giving them firsthand experience with the tools and techniques necessary for success.
A key focus of the sessions was on equipping teachers with content knowledge and the skills needed to facilitate their students’ learning experiences effectively. We explored various teaching methodologies, discussed how to foster a collaborative learning environment, and shared best practices for guiding students through complex problem-solving tasks. These sessions were as much about building community as they were about gaining technical expertise—teachers shared their own experiences learned from one another. They left with a strong network of peers to lean on throughout the school year.
The impact of these sessions extends far beyond the classroom. By the end of the training, all participating teachers earned their Riders certification, a significant achievement that symbolizes their readiness to lead the next generation of engineers and programmers.
The excitement is palpable as we look ahead to the World Cup this December. We can’t help but feel a sense of anticipation as these teachers, armed with knowledge and a renewed sense of purpose, return to their schools. They will inspire their students to push the boundaries of what they think is possible, to work together, and to dream big.
