Building the Future in the Heartland: Miami EdTech Ignites Indiana’s STEM Scene

Last weekend, something special happened in Indianapolis. As part of a broader initiative to expand STEM access nationwide, Miami EdTech—in partnership with the Infosys Foundation USA—brought its signature blend of innovation and hands-on learning to Indiana. On April 12–13, we hosted the Infento Build-a-thon and Riders Hack-a-thon at the cutting-edge Infosys Tech & Innovation Hub. The event, led by our Head of Partnerships, Max Ringelheim, brought together students, teachers, and workforce leaders to celebrate the power of STEM in shaping brighter futures.

But this wasn’t just a weekend event. This was a milestone moment: our first activation in Indiana, made possible by a grant focused on statewide STEM engagement—and a powerful preview of what’s to come.

Why Infento and Riders? Because Innovation Should Be Built, Not Just Taught

At Miami EdTech, we choose our partners with purpose. Infento empowers students to become makers—challenging them to engineer rideable electric vehicles using modular components that mimic real-world mechanical systems. Riders complements that experience by connecting students to virtual robotics and coding challenges, reinforcing technical skills through gamified, future-ready learning.

Together, they offer what we value most: hands-on, minds-on learning that’s deeply aligned with workforce relevance.

Students, Schools, and STEM Synergy

Students from more than 10 schools—ranging from Mishawaka to Memorial Park, from Speedway to Arsenal Tech—showed up ready to build, code, and collaborate. With guidance from teachers and mentors, teams tackled engineering challenges head-on, designing Indy 500-style electric vehicles and developing code-driven robotics solutions.

The weekend culminated in relay races, live presentations, and thoughtful Q&A sessions—all judged by industry experts from Infosys, Employ Indy, CSTA Indiana, and more.

These weren’t just fun competitions. They were real-world demonstrations of teamwork, problem-solving, and creativity in motion.

The Miami EdTech Model, In Action

Since our founding, Miami EdTech has worked with hundreds of educators and thousands of students to bridge the digital divide and create new pathways into tech careers. We’ve helped schools redesign how they teach computer science, partnered with global leaders to bring innovation into classrooms, and built scalable models of teacher training and student empowerment.

This weekend in Indiana is a natural evolution of that work—proof that our model not only travels well but meets the moment wherever there’s a need.

A Glimpse Into the Future: CrossRoads 2025

We’re proud to share that this activation is part of our journey toward Infosys Foundation USA’s CrossRoads 2025—themed “Celebrating 10 Years on the CS Fast Track: Racing into the Age of AI.”

Our work with Infento and Riders, and our ability to convene students, educators, and employers, is shaping the next chapter of STEM in America. As we prepare to take the stage at CrossRoads, we look forward to sharing more about our journey—and inviting others to join us in accelerating access and impact across communities nationwide.

STEM That Sticks

Whether it was the STEM Champion Award, the Pit Crew Prize, or the sheer joy of crossing the finish line in an electric vehicle they built themselves, students left the weekend energized. They didn’t just walk away with certificates and swag—they walked away with a sense of possibility.

And that’s exactly what we’re here to build.
